RESULTS - DAY 1

MARION, INDIANA - The Fresno Pacific University track and field teams showed up at the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships ready to continue what has proven to be a very successful season.

On the first day of competition at Nationals, several Sunbirds represented well for FPU including two All-American finishes.

In what proved to be a memorable women’s javelin competition and a highlight of the day, Tiffany Marinos and Milika Tuivanuavou were both named NAIA All-American. Marinos threw 145’8 and finished in 3rd place, 14 inches ahead of Tuivanuavou in 4th.

Ethan DeJongh was also solid for the Sunbirds in the 110 meter hurdles with a lifetime best and school record of 14.35 seconds. His time ranks him 5th going into the semifinal round.

In the hammer throw, Aaron Winters and Toby Garza came into the competition ranked 19th and 28th, and finished 12th and 19th, respectively.

400 meter hurdlers Jessie Alanis
and Jessica Suddaby finished the first round of competition ranked 3rd and 5th, respectively. Suddaby finished 2nd in her heat and Alanis finished her heat in 1st. Both are poised to make strong runs at the final.

In what proved to be a windy race, Andrew Clark battled the elements and made the semifinal round of the 400 meter hurdles even after crashing into the last hurdle.

Notably, the Sunbird women are in fifth place with 11 points after day one of scoring at the national championships.
