FRESNO, CA -- Fresno Pacific University will host a five-team NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round tournament beginning Tuesday (May 18) at FPU Field.
It is one of nine opening-round tournaments that feed into the NAIA World Series.
British Columbia (39-11) is seeded No. 1 in the double-elimination event, with Fresno Pacific (35-15) seeded No. 2. Point Loma Nazarene (35-18) is seeded third, followed by No. 4 Houston-Victoria of Texas (31-20) and No. 5 Ohio Dominican (22-27).
Games will be at 11 a.m., 3:00 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday (May 18) and Wednesday (May 19) and 3:00 and 7 p.m. on Thursday (May 20). There will be a game at 1 p.m. on Friday (May 21), if necessary.
The opening round champion will advance to the NAIA World Series May 28 to June 4 in Lewiston, Idaho.
Fresno Pacific (35-15) finished runner-up in the Golden State Athletic Conference and is ranked No. 11 in the final NAIA poll. The Sunbirds made their first appearance in the NAIA World Series last season.
An all-tournament pass for the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round costs $22. Daily tickets cost: $8 for adults; $5 for students (with ID); and $3 for children under 12.
