RIVERSIDE, Calif. - No. 14 Fresno Pacific (32-13) opened their 2010 GSAC tournament with a win over The Master’s College (25-24). The Master’s scored first in the second inning, but the Sunbirds held them scoreless for the remainder of the game as they scored four runs to win 4-1.
Kelyn Schellenberg did what he has been doing all season; he went the distance, pitching all nine innings while pulling out the win for the Sunbirds. After The Master’s scored in the second inning, Schellenberg and the Sunbirds’ defense held The Master’s to only four more hits with no runs. Schellenberg finished with four strikeouts.
Dwight Nixon led the Sunbirds with two RBIs putting the nail in with his two-run home run in the eighth inning to put the game at 4-1.
No. 14 Sunbirds move on to the winners’ bracket and will face No. 18 Point Loma Nazarene tomorrow. The Sunbirds will need to come ready to play as they fell to Point Loma 3-1 in their four-game series through the regular season. Fresno Pacific is coming in with momentum on a seven-game winning streak. Their game will begin on Tuesday, May 11 at 3 p.m.
