FRESNO, CA. - The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team had a successful 2009 season highlighted by exceptional growth, numerous achievements, and overall progress.

The Sunbird's campaign included a number of historic moments and significant accomplishments capped off by a second consecutive GSAC playoff appearance, a record breaking win streak, and victories over two top-twenty ranked teams.

After dropping the first match of the year to CSU Stanislaus, Fresno Pacific went on to set a program record by posting a seven game win streak which included victories over No.16 CSU San Marcos, and No.13 The Master's College.

During that stretch, senior forward Ashley Sherr received NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week and GSAC Player of the Week honors after tallying 10 points in two matches during a Sunbird's road trip. Sherr netted the golden goal in the first overtime to down Southern Oregon 1-0, and then scored all 4 goals in a 4-0 shutout over Simpson less than 24 hours later.

In addition, the Sunbirds posted a 3-1 come-from-behind win over Westmont College which was the first win over the Warriors in program history. A few games later, FPU also overcame a 2-0 deficit to tie No.5 Vanguard 2-2 as well.

FPU ended a solid 2009 campaign with a respectable 9-7-1 overall record having qualified for the GSAC playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Seniors Diana Ortega and Ashley Sherr were selected to the 2009 All-GSAC Team while senior Danielle Dickie and junior Liz Baldwin earned All-GSAC Scholar Athlete honors.
