JOHSNON CITY, TN. -
On the final day of the NAIA Indoor National Championships in Johnson City, Tennessee, the Sunbird track and field teams showed up ready to impress.
Milika Tuivanuavou started the action with a 2-foot personal best in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet 5 inches. The throw catapulted her into 5th place as she earned her All-American status.
Amanda Straw followed shortly after with an impressive performance of her own in the high jump. Her jump of 5’5 ¾” placed her fifth overall and was her second All-American award of the weekend.
Not to be outdone, Eugene Vollmer and Ethan DeJongh finished the weekend strong on the men’s side.
In the most dramatic event of the weekend, Vollmer and DeJongh took part in the triple jump which had five different leaders during the competition. Vollmer tied for second with a jump of 51 feet even but finished in third position based on a cumulative score which included second farthest jump distances.
DeJongh finished in 5th place with a jump of 49 feet 10 inches. Both Sunbirds were named All-American.
