SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Fresno Pacific (14-2, 6-2 GSAC) could not pull out the sweep of The Master’s College (11-9, 5-5 GSAC) on the road as they dropped the second game in the doubleheader. Despite their 3-0 lead, the Sunbirds could not find the answer to stop The Master’s 7-1 run within four innings as The Master’s took the second game 4-7. However, the Sunbirds managed to get the win earlier with a 9-4 victory.
Dane McLaughlin and
Michael Rivera each rose up for the Sunbirds in the two separate games. Both players had homeruns for the Sunbirds, but McLaughlin’s two-run homer helped the Sunbirds retake the lead in game-one.
McLaughlin hit 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs in the first game, while RIvera hit 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs in the second game.
Kelyn Schellenberg pitched another complete game for the Sunbirds, allowing 11 hits and only one earned run.
David Hawes pitched 5.1 innings in game-two and allowed 9 hits and five runs. The Sunbirds only trailed by one run, but the bullpen could not keep the Sunbirds in the game as they allowed another 4 hits and 2 runs for The Master’s.
The Sunbirds will rematch The Master’s College in Fresno on Saturday, March 13 in another doubleheader. The first game begins at 11 a.m.
