FRESNO, CA. - #3 ranked Vanguard University proved to be too much for the FPU women's basketball team, powering past the Sunbirds 92-60 Thursday evening in GSAC play. The Lions shot 47.5% from the field, and 56% from behind the arc on the way to the 32 point win.
Bridgette Reyes led the way for Vanguard with a game-high 22 points, while teammates Jaclyn Blied, Sarah Boyd, and Rachel Copeland all chipped in double-digit performances as well.
Despite the loss, junior forward
Jessica Torrecillas had another impressive performance for the Sunbirds, with 20 points, and was strong in the paint with 11 rebounds.
Senior guard
Melissa Flores also contributed with 13 points and 4 rebounds for FPU.
With the win, the nationally ranked Lions improve to 17-2, and 13-2 in the GSAC while the Sunbirds drop to 6-18, and 3-11 in conference play.
