Sunbirds baeball coach honored as 2009 Diamond/ABCA NAIA Regional Coach of the Year

Oscar Hirschkorn has been named as one of nine 2009 Diamond/ABCA NAIA Regional Coaches of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches of the Year.
Hirschkorn will be honored at the ABCA's annual convention in January.
Hirschkorn earned recognition based on his team's run into the 2009 NAIA World Series. The Sunbirds finished the season 39-21 overall and 24-12 in the GSAC. They finished second in the conference and ranked No. 13 in the NAIA. In just the program's fourth season,coach Hirschkorn led the Sunbirds to a regional championship and a run in the NAIA World Series -- their highest finish so far.
After defeatinmg Bellevue for the regional title, Fresno Pacific defeated Embry-Riddle in the World Series. However, the Sunbirds fell to Lewis-Clark State and Lee University to end their run.
