FRESNO, CA -- The Master's College won a penalty-kick shootout to defeat Rio Grande 1-0 on Friday and advance to Saturday's (Oct. 5) title game of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship being played at Fresno Pacific's Ramirez Field.
The Mustangs, a conference rival of host Fresno Pacific, will face No. 1 Lindsey Wilson of Kentucky, which downed Simon Fraser (B.C) 3-0 in the other semifinal.
The final will take place at 3 p.m. Pacific time on Saturday.
Playing before a couple hundred fans who made the trip from Southern California, The Master's battled No. 3 seed Rio Grande (Ohio) to a 0-0 deadlock through 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime. The game was finally decided when Rio Grande's eighth kicker hit the post with his penalty kick and the Mustang faithful mobbed their heroes.
Fresno Pacific is hosting the national tournament for the second consecutive season.
