Fresno Pacific swimming is beginning their third season in a new spot for their program: at the top. Both men’s and women’s teams were announced as No. 1 in the season’s first poll. The men took three of the four first-place votes while the women took two.
This is the first time in program history that either team has been ranked No. 1 in the nation, and both teams accomplished their milestones on the same day. Last season the men finished second in the NAIA while the women finished fourth.
The men’s poll was as follows: No. 1 Fresno Pacific - 21 (3 first-place votes), No. 2 Concordia - 15 (1 first-place vote), No. 3 Lindenwood - 13, No. 4 Cal Baptist - 6, and Simon Fraser - 4.
The women’s poll was as follows: No. 1 Fresno Pacific - 15 (2 first-place votes), No. 2 Simon Fraser - 15 (1 first place vote), No. 3 Cumberlands 12, No. 4 Concordia - 8 (1 first-place vote), and tied for No. 5 Savannah College of Art & Design and Cal Baptist - 7.
The next poll for both teams will be released on Jan. 28, 2010.
