OAKLAND, Calif. – Fresno Pacific women’s swimming finished a strong weekend at the Bay Area Invitational against four other women’s squads taking every event on Friday and finishing the weekend with 17 victories, including all five relays.
The Sunbirds also showed their dominance with seven first-second finishes of their 17 wins.
Cheyenne Coffman led the Sunbirds with six wins on the weekend. Coffman took all three backstroke events: 50 backstroke (27.51), 100 backstroke (1:00.71) and the 200 backstroke (2:13.54). Coffman also won the 100 freestyle (55.12), the 50 butterfly (26.98) and the 100 individual medley (1:04.28).
Stacy Carter followed with three victories coming in the 200 and 400 individual medley (2:16.40, 4:47.09) and the 1650 freestyle (18:21.80).
Joclyn Ford took the 100 breaststroke (1:09.45) while
Lauren Malthaner won the 50 breaststroke (31.66).
Brooke Turner finished off the Sunbirds victories with a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:21.24).
Coach Patrick Ota commented on the weekend, “The girls really stepped up and performed well considering some cold weather and some sickness going around. They’re right where we need to be at this point of the season.”
The men and women will come together next weekend at home against UC Santa Cruz and University of Pacific. The meet will begin at 12 noon on Saturday, November, 21.
