Fresno Pacific senior Katia Sabate was a double winner Saturday at the intercollegiate Tennis Association NAIA regional in Azusa.
Sabate defeated Kristen Strimple of Point Loma Nazarene, 7-6, 6-3 for the singles title, then won the doubles with teammate Vanessa Heroux, 6-0, 6-3 against Sheryl Bon and Sarita Adhikary of Azusa Pacific.
In men's doubles, Sunbirds Xavier Smith/Denny Fafek were runnerup, losing a close final to Mathiujs Bolsius/Mathias Weber of Azusa Pacific, 6-2, 6-7, (10-8).
Smith lost in the singles quarterfinals, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 to Janosch Apelt of Azusa Pacific.
